Sending and receiving files

At the bottom of each job page is a Documents section: anything you send the installer, and anything they share with you, in one list.

The Documents section, at the bottom of a job page, working in both directions. The server these screenshots come from has no file storage configured, so the Add a file button is missing from the picture rather than from the product: on a working site it sits directly under this heading.

Press Add a file and pick it. The control says what it takes: PDFs or photos, up to 10 MB each.

Accepted file types are PDF, JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC, which between them cover everything a phone or a scanner produces. Nothing else is allowed through, including SVG, which is a picture format that can carry code inside it and is refused deliberately.

Things worth sending, if they ask:

  • A photo of your consumer unit, the box with the trip switches in it.
  • Photos of the roof from the ground, from a couple of angles.
  • A recent electricity bill, or an annual statement.
  • A previous quotation, if you are comparing.

Anything you upload is visible to the installer straight away. Files they upload are theirs until they choose to share one with you, at which point it appears in this list.

Limit Value
Size of one file 10 MB
Files on one job 20
Total on one job 100 MB
Uploads in an hour 10

If something is refused, the message says why: the file is empty, it is bigger than 10 MB, it is not one of the accepted types, or the job has reached its file limit and something has to be deleted first.

A phone photo is usually two to four megabytes, so the per-file limit is generous. A long PDF scanned at high resolution is the thing most likely to go over it.

You can delete the files you uploaded. Files the installer shared with you are theirs, and only they can remove those.

Deleting your own upload removes it from their view too, so if they asked for a photo and you have deleted it, they no longer have it.

Two possibilities.

You have not used a sign-in link yet. Uploading needs your email address confirmed, and the page tells you so, pointing you at the sign-in link that was sent to you. See signing in.

The installer has not set file storage up. Some have not. In that case the section is still there, listing anything that exists, but nothing can be uploaded by either side. Email them the photograph instead.
